History:

Abeja [Honey Bee] is our second bean sourced directly from COMUCAP in the Region of Montecillos, Marcala. But how Abeja came to life is a remarkable story. In February of 2023, Viva invited a partner roasting company from Wisconsin to join us in an origin trip to Honduras to further grow our direct trade relationships. During the 10-day trip, we were able to meet with COMUCAP which is an all women operated Co-op that grows remarkable beans. During the introduction and cupping session, the COMUCAP leadership was able to share their story with our guests and the outcome can be summarized into this statement: "We thought we were coming down here to buy coffee. We did not expect to fall in love with the people and the stories [of courage and perseverance]. The great coffee is just an extra". Today, both our friends from Wisconsin and Viva are sourcing coffee beans directly from COMUCAP... because it is not about the coffee. It is, and will always be about the people.
