Our second Premium Grade coffee, Huertas is an outstanding coffee with notes of red berries, vanilla, honey, and caramel with remarkable sweetness and body, while maintaining a delightful acidity. Grown at an altitude of 1,650 mts asl, this coffee bean owes its extreme flavor to its natural processing, very high altitude, and the influence of the pacific ocean winds hitting the western sierras of Honduras.

History: Our relationship with Carlos Amaya, son of Mr. Juan Carlos Amaya, originated during a coffee forum in the spring of 2021. Gerardo had joined the virtual forum where he got a message from Carlos. At that time, Carlos shared a quick background on his family’s coffee farm and on the different types of beans and processes that they were developing. Although the product seemed amazing and the farms enjoy the perfect conditions and altitude, there was something else that was more special than the coffee itself. Gerardo was impressed by Carlos’ knowledge, his passion, and his drive to become the best coffee farmer in the Montecillos Coffee Region in Western Honduras. This young farmer has become the technical expert developing different processes (Examples: Washed, Natural, Honey) and recipes to add value to his dad’s coffee plantation. Recently, Carlos had the idea to start growing Geisha beans, which will be added to the product offering. When him and Gerardo met in person at one of the farms, Gerardo was impressed by how much Carlos cared. How passionate he was about his work. How driven he was to go above and beyond to provide the highest quality bean. Gerardo was sold… because that is what Viva stands for. We stand for people that want to make a difference in the world through excellent work ethic, technical development, and passion to be agents of change.

This is for Carlos, this is for Las Huertas!
